Little Nightmares was a game capable in its own small way of building a new kind of horror game, certainly terrifying, but able to talk to a fancullesque and almost black fairytale register which made it a little classic. Broken Veil, platforming adventure game coming soon KickStarter from Sinistrum Games, has decided to take up the challenge of Tarsier Studios by proposing similar atmospheres, but playing on original elements.
Set in a dismal post-Soviet Russia, Broken Veil puts us in command of a boy suffering from face blindness (prosopagnosia) which does not allow him to skillfully distinguish the faces of the people he meets, who will have to wander around a small provincial town in search of his mother.
The particular condition of our alter-ego will lead us to move in an extremely hostile environment, in which nothing on screen will be as it appears, which has allowed the developers to create deep and disturbing puzzles.
The design created by Sinistrum Games is really interesting: a stylized graphic with conceptual features photographs the typical environments of a decadent contemporary Russian environment, in a riot of cheap and crumbling structures.
To add inviting touches there are then some central gameplay features, such as the possibility to solve the different challenges driving animals and using various tools (like a laser pointer, which seems to matter a lot). All within a game that seems based on our ability to always keep a cool head and play cunning, moving with caution in a frightening environment.
In case Broken Veil teases you, know that the project will arrive on Kickstarter in the late second quarter of 2021, and its release is currently scheduled for around the end of the year.
We invite you to follow the Twitter profile and the official website of the game (which will be available in English and Russian).
