CD Projekt Red expands: new studio in Canada and new projects

And so, between a patch and a hacker attack, CD Project Red, the Polish development studio that gave birth to the videogame series of The Witcher and the much talked about cyberpunk 2077, he put his own on the table new projects of expansion: new studio a Vancouver, in Canada, and new development strategies on the horizon.

After rising to prominence with The Witcher 3, towing and elevating Poland's entire gaming industry in tow, and after taking a hit with a questionable release of cyberpunk 2077, one of the most anticipated video games of the last 10 years, CD Projekt is now preparing on the one hand to redeem itself for its mistakes, and on the other hand to channel the efforts of the last few years in the search for a new business dimension that allows it to manage and support multiple video games at the same time. In other words, CD Projekt Red is becoming a full-fledged Triple A studio.

CD Projekt's social profiles have started posting slide, in both English and Polish, where the new strategic moves of the firm are illustrated. Among the information announced, it seems that it is in the process of being acquired Digital Scapes, a Vancouver development studio that has worked with them in the past. From this acquisition the first Canadian branch which will be called Red Vancouver Project CD. This will be the third study development of the company, which will join the already established offices in Krakow and Wroclaw.

We have worked closely with Digital Scapes for three years and we fully trust them. Digital Scapes worked a lot on the making of Cyberpunk 2077, assisting in the development of the game and optimizing its various features. In addition to contributing to our projects, the new team will help us to perfect our technologies and will broaden our skills in this regard. We believe Digital Scapes' hugely talented crew is the perfect foundation on which to build a larger team than Red Vancouver Project CD.

Pawel Zawodny, CTO at CD Projekt Red

Vancouver is one of the largest global centers of video game production. This is where many studios of large publishers are concentrated and in recent times also small independent companies have sprung up. We trust (and hope) that this acquisition will lighten the workload of CD Projekt Red after the latest findings on the state of development of Cyberpunk 2077, shortly after the controversial launch of the game.

With this new strategy, CD Projekt is committed to bringing new content in 2021 to both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher franchise. As you can see from the image above, they are expected Free DLC by Cyberpunk, as well as patches, improvements and updates to the next-gen version of the game. Regarding The Witcher universe, a free-to-play mobile game called The Witcher: Monster Slayer, there will be a next-gen patch for The Witcher 3 and some unspecified developments are planned for the card game GWENT.

Le mission that once were part of the identity of CD Projekt, with this new registry change have been expanded and modified. As visible frombottom infographics, called "Our Transformation Journey," the company will now focus on Parallel IP, trying to mixing RPG with other triple A genres, flanking side projects expanding the ecosystem of the main IPs, and trying to focus not only on the quality of the games, but also on the quality of the team of development. These are news that, after the controversies and official apologies of the last few months, probably cast a new light on CD Projekt… or new shadows, depending on how you want to judge these events.

The narrative universes of Cyberpunk and The Witcher will be expanded to other media as well, including TV series, music and merchandise. We are curious to find out what will come from these two IPs in the near future. In the meantime, we refer you to the latest patch of Cyberpunk 2077 which seems to have solved several problems.
