Dragon Quet 12 is coming.
The new game was presented on the occasion of a showcase for the 35th anniversary of the brand, within which Square also showed a mobile game, an update to an online game that will not be released worldwide, a remake of Dragon Quest 3 that will only arrive on consoles, and a spin-off called Dragon Quest Treasures for unannounced platforms.
The twelfth episode of the canonical series will be titled Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate, and will be developed in Unreal Engine 5. Here is the official trailer:
Yuji Horii, creator of the brand, said that Dragon Quest XII will not have a turn-based battle system, but specified that this "will not disappear completely, but it will be different". He then added that "Those who have played Dragon Quest so far will still feel at home". Note that he did not say it will be an Action RPG, and only said it "is not turn based".
Yuji Horii also explained that Dragon Quest 12 will be darker than most games in the series, which will be aimed primarily at an adult audience, and which will focus more on posing to the characters difficult choices on which their destinies will depend. The game will also once again count on the collaboration of Akira Toriyama.
At the moment Dragon Quest doesn't have a certain release date, and we don't know which platforms it will be released for.
