Ichiban Kasuga did not have an easy debut at all, we had already said it in the review of Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Yet replacing the unforgettable Kiryu, protagonist of seven chapters of the series produced by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, was not so difficult for Ichiban thanks to her overwhelming sympathy and charisma, automatically becoming the face and soul of the new Yakuza.
Ichiban Kasuga, his adventures don't end there
It is very certain that the "new" Yakuza will have the eyes and hair of Ichiban. The protagonist was unanimously appreciated by the community of fans; the writer and disagner Masayoshi Yokoyama claims:
“I think Yakuza: Like a Dragon is just the first chapter devoted to Ichiban's life. After all, in the game he has just returned to town after years in prison, his life is all uphill. I am sure there will be many trials and tribulations awaiting him ”.
Yokoyama's words do not give proof of the arrival of the second chapter dedicated to Ichiban but they bode well for the return of the curly-haired yakuza.
Yokoyama finally adds: "I usually develop a video game keeping in mind the life of a single person, I'm not sure if I will continue to write something about his life for sure, but I can very well imagine him in trouble somewhere on this Earth!". How to blame the designer, Ichiban Kasuga is a character born mainly for Ryu Ga Gotoku Online, multiplayer chapter of the saga, released only in the Rising Sun. The character liked it so much that he has earned a leading position in place of Kiryu, now in "retirement".
We remind you that from 2 March Yakuza: Like a Dragon is also available on PS5, the title debuted in November on PS4, Xbox One, PC and exclusively on Xbox Series S | X. The title is a kind of soft reboot of the saga that provides a more genre-centric play style JRPG abandoning the beat 'em up once and for all. The experiment - born as a joke for the gamer community in a video - everyone liked it so much that it turned Like a Dragon into… “Dragon Quest!“, Ichiban's favorite video game.
