Mortal Kombat X Mobile - Review

Test performed on iPad Air

Despite many suspicions, the mobile market is becoming more and more popular and even large companies, such as Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios, are dedicating themselves to it with increasing frequency as the weeks and months go by. The last case, in chronological order, is in particular that of Mortal Kombat X which anticipated the arrival of the main chapter for PC and console by a few days.

Feeling of déjà vu

Those most accustomed to games for tablets and smartphones will notice immediately a feature in Mortal Kombat X and which manages, at the same time, to be a great value and a great defect for the application. In fact, the title is essentially a copy of what was already offered with Injustice: Gods Among Us. The gameplay in fact follows what has already been seen with the previously mentioned application: the aim of the game will in fact be to face a series of opponents with your team, made up of three fighters, and thus conquer the different towers. To attack, just make a single tap on and then follow the directions that will appear to complete the move. Once the battle has been successfully completed, it will be possible to obtain credits with which you can buy support cards or new characters in the appropriate shop, to expand your roster or to enhance the fighters already in the possession of users.

Playing Mortal Kombat X is extremely simple, since the immediacy of the controls has been significantly improved compared to what was experienced with Injustice. This comparison seems a must, since the peculiarities between the two products are very evident, with the only difference that Injustice: Gods Among Us brought with it a breath of fresh air not found in Mortal Kombat X.

Free, but how much does it cost me

One of the biggest questions that every player asks when downloading a free-to-play title is how invasive in-app purchases are.

In Mortal Kombat X they are, and a lot: to have the most powerful characters, the golden ones, it will be inevitable to put your wallet in hand; in the same way it will be essential to do it if you want to play with extreme continuity. Daily tournaments allow you to get credits daily, which you can spend as you wish in the in-game shop. However, these will allow the purchase of some bronze figures, and no more.

In addition to the main campaign, Mortal Kombat X also offers a series of challenges already mentioned even if the gameplay always remains the same. In a short time, in conjunction with the release of the console version of the game, the struggle between factions and the possibility of obtaining golden characters by completing dedicated challenges will be added.

Finally, it remains to point out the disproportionate battery consumption that the application requires from smartphones and tablets, hoping that an update will resolve this issue soon.

Final comments

Mortal Kombat X manages to reproduce what is seen with the Injustice: Gods Among Us application, accentuating, as far as possible, the negative aspects.

If on the one hand the immediacy of the gameplay and the simplicity of controls have been improved, on the other hand the In-App purchases are decidedly disproportionate and the excessive consumption of the battery prevents users from being able to play for a long time with Mortal Kombat X thus ruining the overall gaming experience.
