Square-Enix has released new information about Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent, prequel to thatOctopath Traveler which on release represented a small case in the world of JGDR 2D. For the occasion, a new trailer has also been released, which we propose below.
Announced as early as March 2019, the title has been postponed due to a pandemic, but is now on the home straight: will arrive on the market on October 28th. Unlike the original title, released on PC, Stadia and Nintendo Switch, this is a mobile game, planned for iOS and Android systems, on which it has already accumulated half a million pre-registered accounts. However, this does not seem to affect its quality, at least in terms of productive commitment: like the parent, too Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent is developed by Square-Enix in collaboration with Acquire, a very valuable studio (famous for the stealth saga of tenchu and the action-adventure series Way of the Samurai).
In short, you can be reasonably calm about the fact that it is a cured and not patched-up product. The developers themselves have stressed that it is a complete free-to-play single-player RPG experience, with an in-depth story and a well-defined ending, and which will take approximately 60 hours to complete. At the moment, only the Japanese version has been announced, intended for the domestic market. Obviously it is entirely reasonable to expect an international release in English, given the good success of the first title (over 2 million copies between physical and digital) and the already underway development of a sequel for the PC and console market.
The distinctive features of the brand will remain in the mobile title: HD-2D pixel art graphics, 8 main characters, each with its own storyline, freedom of choice for the player on how to compose his team and in what order to continue the adventure, valuable column sound also this time composed by Yasunori Nishiki (among other things, composer and arranger for Final Fantasy VII Remake). In short Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent has what it takes to be one of the best mobile RPG titles ever. All that remains is to wait confidently for October 28th and hope that all promises will be kept. Finally, if by any chance you don't know the franchise, we refer you to our Octopath Traveler review.
