Pawarumi is a retro-toned vertical scrolling arcade shooter that takes us back in time. In the game you will play AXO, the best pilot in the empire, seeking revenge for the destruction of her fleets. But is it a simple shooter? Absolutely not. Let's find out the particular hit system in the Pawarumi review.
Make your way through RGB shots
In Pawarumi you will command a small ship with three types of bullets: Red Jaguars (homing missiles), Condor Blue (laser beam) e Green Snakes (machine gun). Likewise, the enemies can be red, green or blue. You will have to make your way by defeating the enemies and dodging their bullets.
How do shots and enemies interact with each other? Pawarumi uses an original strike system a triad style paper, scissors and stone.
Red on red will have the effect BOOST: will upload your own shield allowing you to take part of the damage taken, as well as blue on blue and green on green.
Red on blue will have the effect CRUSH: You will inflict extra damage enemies hit, as well as green on red and blue on green.
Red on green will eventually have the effect DRAIN: You will gradually charge a bar that will allow you to unleash a super attack ad area destructive.
Getting carried away with melds is certainly not easy, but the game will constantly remind you of the effects you can get just by checking in bass to the screen. There they are marked on which color of enemies you will get Boost, Crush or Drain based on the type of bullets equipped.
A particular style, perhaps too much
The style that the guys from Manifacture43 have decided to use immediately catches the eye. A kind of Maya – Azteco fused to futuristic neon it feels a bit heavy for players. Too many elements on-screen and too particular: in a fast-paced game like this it can be a bit annoying.
Funny and particular bosses, for example in a certain level you may find yourself against a kind of snake made of metal e rock decorated with motifs tribals, which constantly changes colors by rotating its pieces.
Yet another is a sort of Aztec stone golem rebuilt in an ancient abandoned industry.
However, the neo-Mayan sci-fi thread is just a little too tight.
However, the level design is extremely enjoyable, the environments are beautiful and characteristic and the continuous exchange of enemies forces the player to make quick decisions on the bullets to be used and switchare quickly between them.
Solo arcade?
Pawarumi only offers 2 game modes, Arcade e Training. Once you enter the Arcade, you select the difficulty (easy, medium and difficult) and go one pull in 3, 4 or 5 consecutive levels. And, just like in an old Arcade shooter, if you die you have to start over.
So patiently prepare to start over each time, learning the levels to be faced with patience are always better. I certainly don't have enough.
Conclusions
Pawarumi is therefore a Shoot'em Up very appreciable, one of those games that stand out best on Nintendo Switch in mode portatile given the fast and frantic nature of its levels. The system of triad shots, which really attracted me a lot in this title. Really recommended if you want a quick game to pass the time while traveling or waiting. Too bad for the style a little too exaggerated.
Pawarumi will be available on Nintendo Switch e Xbox One starting from July 24 2019. The game is already available for PC means Steam.
