Years go by but the number one icon of video games is always him: Super Mario. The mustachioed plumber born from the mind of Shigeru Miyamoto never goes out of style and continues to entertain millions of players, thanks to its adaptability. The titles with Mario as the protagonist are still the most loved and sold on Nintendo consoles.
Over the years, attempts have multiplied to imitate the platform released in 1985 (Mario previously appeared in Donkey Kong and Mario Bros.) with mixed results. If it is true that in the '80s platformers were the masters and it certainly could not be expected that the titles subsequent to Super Mario Bros. could vary a lot from the original formula, it must also be said that in modern times developing games such as Nintendo is not exactly a stroke of genius.
In some cases, we are faced with real attempts at videogame fraud. In this article, we will look at seven more or less shameless clones of Super Mario Bros. taken from both the past and modern creations.
7 cheeky copies of Super Mario Bros.
Let's start this journey among Mario's doubles, on the other hand we know, each of us has just seven doubles scattered around the world.
Alex Kidd in Miracle World
Let's make it clear right from the start: Alex Kidd in Miracle World was a great game and in no way mimicked Super Mario Bros. Of all he is certainly the least shameless clone, but still a clone. At the time, in fact, the video game was considered Sega's answer to Nintendo's huge success. The gameplay mechanics were practically the same, although Alex Kidd could boast a few more advantages in some levels, such as a pedal helicopter.
The Great Giana Sisters
Here we start pulling out the axes. The Great Giana Sisters is a 1987 video game released on Commodore 64, Amiga, Amstrad and other antediluvian platforms. The protagonists are two sisters with a vaguely español name (it had to be Gianna but an N got lost in the meanders of some level). The first five levels were identical to those of Super Mario Bros, if this isn't cheeky then we don't know what it is. It was also, in all likelihood, the first title to run the so-called Nintendo which, having discovered the plagiarism, filed a lawsuit against the German development studio that conceived this clone. Copies were withdrawn from the market.
Jungle Boy Adventure
We come to our days. Jungle Boy Adventure is a game for Android devices that incorporates in all respects the mechanics of the classic platformers. The colorful and high-definition levels do not deceive anyone, it is a beautiful and good copy of Super Mario Bros. If there were still doubts, it would be enough to look at the protagonist: mustache impregnated with shamelessness, red hat notched from a store during the sales, important nose grown out of all proportion due to the constant attempts to convince us that it was not a double. The game itself, however, is not too bad.
Super Jump World
Also known as Lep's World, this mobile game brings Mario's leaps to Irish land. Oh my God, the levels are so similar to those of Super Mario Bros that we doubt that the land of St. Patrick is not quite like that. I've never been there, but I could put my hand on fire. The protagonist is no longer a plumber with a deep hatred for turtles and sautéed mushrooms, but a miserly elf who would tear all Irish fauna to pieces for a treasure hidden under a rainbow. Nice.
Grand Dad
We didn't really understand the genesis of this title, but it looks like a real cool. Basically, Grand Dad is a fanmade project that takes up a bootleg, that is, those abusive copies that, starting from the original, sorted the games of the moment without the authorization of those who owned the rights, of 7 Grand Dad, a clone of Super Mario for the NES. In Grand Dad we play the role of an ancestor (?) Of Mario who for the occasion takes the features of Fred Flintstone, the levels seem to come out of the mind of a color blind person in a hit and there are sprinkles of run & gun, a la Cuphead. Marvelous.

Little Sara Sister
Doesn't this title tell you anything? If you don't have short-term memory crumpled into itself, you've already figured out where genius can go. A clone of The Great Giana Sisters who, in turn, was a clone of Super Mario Bros. Here you stand up and cheer, period. The game is from 2004 but it included only two levels, a version for Commodore 64 was created (yes, on the home computer they continue to develop games) extended and which now includes three chapters.
Monino
The most shameless of all. IPhone game with a protagonist visibly unable to understand and want. He was probably kidnapped and taken to that world of flying blocks and coins. The name already says a lot about the unconscious state of the developers: Monino. Call him Gigino, Vittorino, Pippin, what does Monino represent to me? Embarrassing from all points of view, it could have become a cult but has been removed from the App Store. Monino is the hero we need, but don't deserve, or vice versa, you do.
