Teslagrad - Review

Article by Samuele Zaboi

The platform genre is certainly one of the most popular and able to offer many titles with which to try your hand. Among these can not miss Teslagrad, a product developed by the Rain team, recently also landed on PlayStation 4. The game will catapult users into an imaginary Soviet city of the late nineteenth century, at the first contact with electricity, and will make them play the role of a young and little hero.

When words are not needed

Teslagrad is a title apparently simple but which in its simplicity (purely facade) hides its true wealth. The game looks like an old-style platformer where the game controls, at least initially, are basically two: one to move sideways and one to jump. As the adventure continues, you will be able to conquer various upgrades, such as boots, gloves or a special hood, which will allow the protagonist to learn new skills, such as moving around for short distances or activating particular powers that will allow the hero to interact with the hero. surrounding environment: these will rely on the positive or negative charge, from which it will be possible to be attracted or repelled in order to overcome obstacles of all kinds.

Teslagrad's structure is not complex and the player is busy going through several rooms, placed one in succession to the other. Within these rooms there are various enigmas and puzzles that must be overcome in order to access the next one; as the story progresses, the puzzles will become more and more complex and will require several minutes and above all several attempts to be solved. A characteristic of the title of the boys of Rain is in fact the number of deaths (or defeats) that will be encountered: keeping the count of these will be practically impossible and in the long run there may be many elements that can increase the discomfort in the player, after several unsuccessful attempts, but without ever having the temptation to abandon the game forever.

Scrolls, pieces of life

Hidden in the world of Teslagrad there will be some scrolls that if collected in the right quantity, just over half, will guarantee access to the final boss fight while managing to collect them all you can go to a different conclusion. The skill of the developers can be seen in several respects: on the one hand the graphic sector is undoubtedly pleasant and well done, with backgrounds made in cartoon style, while on the other hand Teslagrad is, surprisingly, a title with high replayability, despite some puzzles may bring, as already mentioned in the previous lines, to exhaustion or are not made and balanced to perfection, with some physical gap that makes resolution even more difficult.

The Rain guys tried not to neglect any detail, also giving prominence and importance to the game's soundtrack, capable of involving users even more in the nineteenth-century and at times dark and futuristic atmosphere of Teslagrad.

Conclusions

Teslagrad is definitely a good platformer, with cartoon-style graphics and a series of puzzles and puzzles capable of involving the player. The title developed by the Rain studio is characterized by a low longevity but at the same time also by a good replayability, thanks to the various hidden secrets to be found in the magical and nineteenth-century world of Teslagrad.
