Scott Cawthon leaves the popular indie horror series and development of the sixth title in the series is halted. Citing excessive pressure to continue creating better and better games, the Texan developer says in a post on the Steam Community that he has stopped development of the new project, saying "you can call it Five Nights At Freddy's 6 turns away”.
“After months of forcing myself to work on this project, I realized I didn't want to do it anymore. Every time I released a game, expectations were raised, with good reason. Each game should be better than the previous one, that's the way it should be! The problem is that the pressure was increasing and I'm afraid I have left out more important things in my life to be able to keep up with the expectations that grew every time. "
Launched in August 2014 for PC then after a very short time for Android and iOS, Five Nights At Freddy's has become a cornerstone of the indie horror scene in a very short time, with five different iterations and numerous spin offs such as Five Nights At Freddy's World, a kind of RPG released last year. It certainly cannot be said that Cawthon, the sole developer of the project, was idle, not to mention the novels written by Cawthon himself. In addition, a film on the franchise is planned.
Cawthon isn't going to sit idle though. According to some statements by him he plans to work on a VR title and write a third free on FNAF, as the second ends on a cliffhanger.
