Not even the time to get out unscathed (or maybe not) from the cursed Sumerian temple of House of Ashes (here our review) that Supermassive Games and Bandai Namco invite us to another horror evening, without a precise date, however, to tell us about the yet another horror story.
With a trailer, visible at the end of the final credits, the fourth episode of the anthological series The Dark Pictures has been announced, the title is The devil in me. The video clarifies that it will be the last episode of the first season, in fact, according to old statements of the team, the series should consist of eight chapters, therefore, if the math is not an opinion, in the future a second season should be waiting for us with four more games.
The trailer already gives us some clues as to what awaits us, apparently the story will not have the supernatural and will allow us to follow the events from the point of view of the villain, a serial killer.
It is he who acts as a narrator, he is considered an artist, in fact, his victims end up becoming macabre works of art after suffering the pains of hell due to the perverse games of man. In the video they are shown torture and deadly traps to which the characters led by the player will have to evade.
There is more than something that appears familiar, the first source of inspiration that comes to mind is definitely the film saga of Saw, to follow we thought of Hostel, in short, it seems that the developers wanted to take the cycle of films, in vogue in the first decade of the 2000s, of the slasher / escape genre in a videogame key.
After the haunted ship of Man of Medan, the ghost town of Little hope and the Sumerian temple of House of Ashes, Supermassive retraces his steps a bit by proposing a story with a more tangible threat (then the developments are unpredictable and we cannot predict them), following in the footsteps of the first part of the game of Until Dawn (considered by most to be the most successful product, but external to The Dark Pictures).
The serial killer who plays with his victims seems to us a good subject to round off a series that has had, it must be said, ups and downs. Furthermore, considering that in the trailer much importance is given to the narrative role of the assassin, we do not mind imagining that this time the events can really take a particular and original turn, for example, offering the player the possibility of choose who to kill and who to save giving him control of the traps, turning them on and off at will and, why not, even cheating.
As mentioned, there is no release date, we assume that the game will be released on both old and current gen, only to have a new course on current consoles in the second season.
