The Unholy Society | Evil awaiting Review

That of the Indies is certainly one of the widest panoramas in the current videogame market and if many of these fail to emerge, others are certainly destined to become real must-haves for fans.

Ok you convinced me!

The game opens with a man in bed with a woman woken up in the night by some insistent phone calls. Getting out of bed, despite the woman's complaints, the man locks himself in the bathroom to check his phone and find a slew of missed calls and messages from her sister inviting him to her wedding. Leaving the bathroom, the woman waits impatiently for him in the center of the room to then turn into a succubus eating man, right at this moment the identity of our protagonist is revealed to us: Bonaventura Horowitz, the biggest (and most penniless) exorcist on the square. Armed with his special crucifix and his trusty smartphone, Bon will immediately put the demon in his place by taking advantage of the situation to explain the basics of the game in the tutorial.

Who will these two individuals be?

After getting rid of the succubus and getting a cazziatone from the Pope for an exorcism without authorization, Bon agrees against the will to officiate his sister's wedding at Silent Virginia, his hometown. Arrived in the little charming city of Silent Virginia (and no that Silent is not by chance) our ramshackle protagonist will meet some well-known faces solving some paranormal case along the way to the church. After meeting our sister we will then make the acquaintance of the groom: a young man named Edward of Slavic origins (and not those with the adidas tracksuit).

During the ceremony the latter will turn into a vampire being or at least this is what we believe, when we wake up there will be only a dead husband and a crowd that will blame us. It will then be up to us to find the clues to our innocence.

Parish POP culture

If you haven't recognized it, you deserve Cannarsi.

The Unholy Society has a course reminiscent of the great 2D adventures like Monkey Island. Huge scrolling scenarios will be explored to find clues, objects and various collectibles alternating with combat phases. This aspect is characterized by a preparation phase in which we will choose up to three spells to be able to cast and one in which we will try to carry out our exorcism. Unfortunately, the fights tend to be a little repetitive, in a limited time we will have to find the various symbols on the screen in order to create the useful combinations to cast spells.

Bon never breaks down.

But what are the real strengths of the game are certainly the irreverent comedy and the many references to POP culture. Unlike other titles that use the same formula, here we are faced with a genuine and sarcastic comedy that mixes the style of Californication with Preacher's blasphemy.

Considerations pending review

The Unholy Society had a lot of fun with its dialogue and the possibility of multiple answers but alas, it turned out to be divided into episodes like in the case of Song of Horror. This first chapter has a total duration of two hours and we do not feel therefore to give hasty votes. We will therefore return to update this article when the misadventures of Bonaventura Horowitz come to an end in order to have the complete picture on this interesting and hilarious title.
