As all fans of the franchise surely know, Halo is a series that has made the fortune of Microsoft and Xbox in equal measure. On the events of Master Chief and of the narrative universe created around the iconic protagonist, a whole series of products and spin-offs have been produced, including Halo Wars.
The title, a RTS connected to the main plot of the saga, he has been able to conquer the fans of the series and, although his nature is very different from that of the first person shooter who made the history of the genre, he has carved out his space in the hearts of many fans.
After a convincing Halo Wars 2, many have wondered if 343 Industries was working on the third installment of the saga. The answer came through the community manager of the development studio and, unfortunately, it was not positive: Halo Wars 3 is not part of the plans of the developer, who is currently concentrating all his forces on the realization of Halo: Infinite.
Halo Wars 3: The Official Statement of 343 Industries
Through the portal Halo Waypoint, John Junyszek, the community manager of 343 Industries, released the following update.
It's hard to believe that the fourth anniversary of the launch of Halo Wars 2 will be at the end of this month! While many things have changed over the past four years, one certainly hasn't: the Halo Wars community continues to be one of the most passionate player groups ever. We are grateful for the care and time you have devoted to Halo Wars 2 and for all of your feedback, requests and insights that you have shared with our team over the years. Thanks!
We always strive to be open, honest and transparent with our community and we know that many of you have been waiting, asking and hoping for news about the future of Halo Wars 2. We want to tell you that we have listened to you, and make sure you know that this feedback is these arguments are actually brought to the right people in the firm for further evaluation. In the past, we have noticed that the publisher was completely focused on the Master Chief Collection and we had no current plans to get back to work on Halo Wars 2. Now, with all titles on PC, we have seen these questions pop up again, even though the 343 Publishing Team is still working on other MCC seasonal content along with a variety of features and further enhancements. It's not always easy to be open and transparent - particularly when we're expecting it not to be an answer the community wants to hear - but we want to make it clear: 343 Industries has no current plans for further updates on Halo Wars 2, including content updates. , balance patches, bring the title to other platforms or to a new game in the series. However, we will continue to monitor the game and make sure everything is working as intended.
Yes, we used the word "currently" because it is the truth - as of today, there is no plan for the development team to re-engage with Halo Wars 2 and we are not working on a new game in the series at this time. But specifically, we're not going to use the word "never" because, well, who knows what the future may bring. If you had told me in the past that MCC would be coming to Steam or that Halo 3 would have content updates 14 years after launch, I would never have believed it, yet here we are. We know that waiting and asking questions about the future is as frustrating as it is exhausting, so hopefully this clarity will help alleviate that, and we want to make it clear that there is no work in progress on Halo Wars.
The next question is definitely "why?" and it boils down to the reality of limited time, resources, and study focus. The 343 Publishing team has no shortage of ideas and inspiration to support MCC and a lot of work going on to support the Halo franchise. In the meantime, most of the studio is incredibly focused on the launch of Halo: Infinite (and you may also have heard, "the launch is just the beginning"). Given the larger impact initiatives the studio is already engaged in, we sadly can't devote the time and attention we would need to provide additional updates and content for the Halo Wars franchise.
Halo Wars 2 will continue to be a special game, with a very special community, and we are grateful for that. Over the years, we are fortunate to have had the opportunity to deliver numerous updates, ranging from brand new content to an unexpected map to player-modeled balance patches (the most recent of which came just last August) . Halo Wars 2 expanded the Halo universe, introduced us to new characters and experiences, and inspired the future of the franchise with its classic art style and introduction of The Banished. Thanks again to everyone in the Halo Wars community for your support, and we can't wait to play The Banished again together this fall in Halo Infinite.
As you have had the opportunity to read with your own eyes, this is not a definitive farewell to the franchise, but only a necessary break due to the work in progress on Halo: Infinite which, needless to mention, will have a crucial importance for the future. both of the series and of Xbox Series X | S. In all likelihood, immediately after the release of the new Master Chief adventure, 343 Industries will be able to focus on the development of the spin-offs of the saga, which will certainly include Halo Wars 3.
Stay tuned for more updates on this.
