Interviewed during a live YouTube by Bethesda community manager Joshua Boyle, Hugo Martin, game director di Doom Eternal, responded in an interesting way to a specific question posed by a fan about the chance to see a female lead for Doom in the future.
This is the answer:
I thought about it, I wish if we did it the result was "lethal", that this change had an impact on glory kills and the type of weapons available, on the fighting style
In short: according to his words, at least once Martin reflected on the possibility of "renewing" one of the most iconic heroes of world fps through a change of gender, a perspective that could not only lead to major changes in the gameplay of the saga (as Martin also remembered), but that could mark a nice shot within the history of the genre.
The problem is: how to make players digest the dismissed role of a historical hero like the Doom Guy, undisputed icon of the genre?
Taking up the Q&A between Martin and Boyle, lo YouTuber Midnight (active in the communities of famous brands such as Halo, Destiny, Gears of War and of course Doom) tried to reason on the matter, explaining how the scepter of Doom Guy could be picked up by one of the fierce warriors who, at the dawn of the demonic invasion of the earth, would join the ranks of the resistance against the extra-dimensional threat.
In terms of lore, the idea of staging participation in human resistance had already been fielded in the design of Doom 4, episode belonging to the old vein of the historical saga but never realized.
Another idea carried out in the video is to make the protagonist of the game another representative of the Night Sentinels, the chivalrous order to which the Doom Guy belongs and of which he officially is the only survivor.
What if this is not the case? If Doom Guy weren't the only surviving Sentinel e another fighter came to take his place?
Both hypotheses are obviously interesting, no doubt about it.
What do you think?
You also think the idea of a female lead for the next Doom (or, why not, a spin-off) could it work?
