A few hours ago the probable existence of a XCOM style game area of The Marvel movies, and as if that weren't enough, now the American cartoon company has just announced the project of a superhero themed role-playing game. His play test it is foreseen in the 2022.
The Marvel Empire, under the leadership of Disney, is trying to engulf more and more media. The probable approach to the narrative galaxies of Star Wars, another Disney domain, perhaps gave the impetus for re-launch superheroes in a format made up of dice, cards, statistics, pencils and miniatures. Let's talk about re-launch because, for the uninitiated, the Marvel superheroes had already tried it in 1991 with Marvel Super Heroes, packaged by the producers of Dungeons & Dragons.
The new board game will feature as many heroic characters from the Marvel universe as possible, allowing players to play as their favorite darlings… or villans. The game currently carries the provisional name di Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game, and is written and designed by Matt Forbeck, former co-author of Duneongs & Dragons: Endless Quest. The role play will use an innovative sistema D616, whatever that means. At the moment we also know that the Ability basic characters are "Might", "Agility", "Resilience", "Vigilance" and "Ego", perhaps translated as follows: Power, Agility, Resilience, Vigilance and Ego.
It will be possible to make playtest starting March 2022, with the following characters announced: Spiderman, Black Panther, Captain America, Thor, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, Wolverine and Storm. We have no idea if it's possible to create your own custom superhero, but let's assume that at least for the playtest version no such thing has been planned.
As a lifelong Marvel fan and gamer, this project is a dream come true. Fortunately, after writing a couple of editions of The Marvel Encyclopedia and designing board games professionally for over 30 years, I feel ready to help make this the best Marvel board RPG experience ever. I can't wait for everyone to have a chance to play it!
