Alyx has given new life to a series that now seemed destined to be lived only through memories or thanks to fan made projects. The "problem", if we can call it that, is that not everyone has a virtual reality headset and that many others suffer tremendously from motion sickness.
That Valve releases a version without VR support is out of the question, so, as is often the case, fans have put in a lot of effort to be able to offer the general public a playable Half-Life: Alyx without VR. A couple of weeks ago, a mod was released that allowed this, however it was imperfect, presented many problems and did not allow, due to the latter, to get to the end of the game.
On the other hand, one thing is to develop a mod that implements new content in a finished game, another is to completely rewrite the code to transform a VR game into a "normal" title. The controls are completely different, the camera was designed specifically for a VR experience, so it's not easy to do this.
Today, however, a new mod for Half-Life: Alyx has been released on GitHub that promises players who do not have a headset to fully enjoy the game even reaching the final scene.
Thanks to this mod, players will be able to use mouse and keyboard to control the protagonist, but the installation is not the easiest. Don't worry, a video tutorial has also been published that shows you step by step how to do it.
Furthermore, on the same page of GitHub where the download is possible, a sort of instruction booklet has been inserted. Here it is possible to realize the changes made on the controls and the "solutions" for some sections of the game that could be more difficult due to the different mapping are listed.
Because yes, even this mod is not perfect and can have some critical issues and bugs. In principle, however, if you can follow the installation procedure correctly and get carried away, it will actually be possible to go ahead and finish the game without using a viewer.
