The world of against, you know, it is always in constant ferment, relying on the fervid imagination of passionate programmers. However, it is well known that some of these unofficial projects may never see the light of day. This is exactly what happened to the mod Capital Wasteland, which, in other words, it aimed to reproduce the world of Fallout 3 in a certain area of the map of Fallout 4. Despite the enormous initial enthusiasm, both from the development team and fans of the two games, a stop has come precisely by Bethesda, which would have stopped the "work in progress" precisely for issues related to copyright.

As our most loyal readers will surely remember, last January we told you about Capital Wasteland. It was a mod born with the purpose of being a unofficial remake of Fallout 3. Through the trailer and the screenshots released, the project appeared to have tremendous potential. Fans of the third installment of the series were already in raptures, as it could visit some of its most characteristic places, such as the Tenpenny Tower, Megaton, and so on, with a graphics sector in step with the times. The Capital Wasteland project, created by the modder team Road to Liberty, however, was not limited to the mere reproduction of the scenarios of Fallout 3, but added all the missions and of dialogues that have characterized it and made it unforgettable.

Despite the very high expectations placed, the mod was abruptly discontinued. According to what was reported by NafNaf_95, the leader of the project, would have emerged problems relating to the use of the original voices of the game. The user, in a recent update released via Twitter, stated that he is aware that this kind of projects are placed in a 'gray area of the law, but their close contact with Bethesda's development team prompted them to take a step back. If the Fallout 3 mod in Fallout 4 had become a reality, then probably some members of Road to Liberty would have been prosecutable for acts of piracy and infringement of copyright. The desire not to compromise relations with Bethesda prompted the modders to cancel their project.
A painful decision
The only possible way would have been to double all the dialogue present in Fallout 3. The team had also considered this possibility, but realized that replacing authoritative voices such as those of Liam Neeson, Malcolm McDowell, Ron Perlman ed Eric Todd Dellums it would not only have been difficult, but it would also have distorted the work, taking away from it the charismatic charm conferred by these great performers. The decision taken by the Road to Liberty team was as painful as it was definitive. However, it is not excluded that in the future, with a different regulatory landscape, work on the Fallout 3 mod in Fallout 4 may resume.
Another project by the modder team that could also be hit by this kind of problem is the Fallout New Vegas mod. Precisely to avoid the onset of such hitches again, it seems that Road to Liberty will invest resources for the re-dubbing of the original game voices. We leave an excerpt of the team's statements attached.
“Unlike other teams, such as Level Design or Asset Creation, our Voice Acting team will operate autonomously, working with voice actors on roles suited to their unique voice. As a result, their work will not be tied to that of the rest of the team. This means that often the VA team will be working on totally different content than the rest of the team is focusing their efforts on, but we have modified our release roadmap planning system to compensate for this.
Due to the way the Voice Acting team will operate separately from the main project team, this means that their work will be included as soon as it is ready. Although this will mean that some parts of the game will be fully voiced much sooner than expected, and other areas may be completed late. As a result, the F4NV release may end up coming out without the recorded voice for certain characters, depending on where our VA team will be at any given time. While disappointing, we believe this approach allows us to keep the project under control, while allowing us to maintain a high standard of quality within it. "
Although the Fallout 3 mod in Fallout 4 has been canceled, the Fallout New Vegas mod seems to enjoy excellent health, and could therefore see the light. Except for other unforeseen events of this kind, of course.
Stay tuned for more news on the matter.
